[Fred doesn't even bother lighting the room as the twins finally turn in after a far more exciting day than he'd anticipated. The celebrations were a riot, Snape managed a halfway decent conversation, and there may be a faux-Marauders entourage in the makings - but the most exciting, in all the wrong ways, was watching George and Ariadne have a row on his Network post. He didn't nudge in and hasn't said anything, it wasn't his place, but now they're alone and relaxing for the night. Fred's not about to let his brother stew in this.

He flops down face first onto his bed, dragging himself to be comfortably situated among the pillows, then turns his head toward George's bed.]

What a day, hm?

[George is sitting on the edge of his bed taking his shoes off. He gives his brother a glance before cracking a grin.]

Brilliant, yeah. Especially you getting hexed on top of it all.

Enjoyed that, did you?

[He nudges the heel off his right shoe, then flings it at George with a kick.]

Glad to be of service to my dearest brother, the Great Tosspot.

[George manages to duck in time to avoid the shoe and tosses it back.]

Oi! Who're you calling a tosspot?

[He swats that one down with his hand then flicks the other his way with a grin.]

You, I'm fairly certain. 'less there's someone else of colossal tosspot qualities in the room.

You realise you are so setting me up for that one, Freddie.

[His tone is staying light, but he's starting to get the feeling about what this is about.]

[And there it is. That unspoken understanding, because more often than not, these two don't really need words. They just know. Fred's voice becomes decidedly serious and concerned.]

What happened?

I'm still not sure, but I reckon I buggered it up.

[He sits up, swinging his legs over the side of the bed to face him directly.]

How d'you figure?

[Not "what'd you do?" because Fred is extremely biased and will never immediately suspect his twin of being in the wrong.]

I went over to see her last week.

[the 'for sex' goes without saying.]

When she woke up... I don't know, she looked like something had really scared her. She ran over to her desk to check something or other and it looked like someone had walked over her grave. So, er... I left.

[Not his proudest moment, alright?]

I tried to apologise, and now she just seems to be angrier.

[Fred's quiet a moment as he thinks about it, then he tilts his head and nods.]

I'd say you mucked that up fairly well, yeah.

[A beat.]

You apologised though.

[That means more than Ariadne probably realises. It's a statement, but more of a question. For them to try and repair what they've ruined, for him to apologise - does that mean he's serious about her?]

Yeah. The good it did.

[Leaning back on his bed, now. Definitely NOT moping...]

[George is going to feel the give of his bed as Fred plops down beside him with his legs crossed. Support is here!]

If you want to fix it, you've just got to tell her, Georgie.

I told you, I tried apologising. She wouldn't have it.

[Sick! He's just gonna put his hands beneath George's calves and give them a good flip.]

That's not what I mean and you know it, you tosser.

[He pokes Fred back with his toes in retaliation. Afterward he sighs, scrubbing his hand over his face.]

It's only been a few weeks. I thought we'd have longer when we could just keep in simple.

When's anything ever simple with us?

[He tosses George's legs aside and stands up to stretch.]

Reckon you'll turn out okay at the end, at any rate. You're too stubborn to let it end at that.

[You do not stop fighting, George Weasley. Not if you really fancy the gal.]

[Thanks for the pep talk, bro.]

We'll find out, I guess.
