1 Mischief Managed - [Video]

[The camera opens on the video feed. Not much can be seen, as what appears to be a hand is covering most of the camera. There is a THUNK as the device is thrown onto a hard surface and skids slightly until it settles, setting up a clear view of the edge of the fountain. A young man is standing waist-deep in water, drenched to the skin. He pushes his fiery red hair out of his eyes, and peers towards the device with what may be an extremely familiar freckled face.]

Look, if someone’s trying to make a point here, I have bathed today.

[He’s seemed to have worked out that the device is broadcasting, and is nonplussed by it. He hoists himself out of the water and sits of the edge, trying to shakes the water out of his sleeves.]

And Ron, if this is another one of your misguided attempts to ‘cheer me up’, I must say that you’ve reached a bit of an all-time low. Dropping me into a fountain, really? Absolutely no finesse at all. In fact I’m considering disowning you on the spot. And I have water up my ear-hole.

[He tilts his head over and gives it a smack to try and dislodge the water. Wear his left ear should be, there is simply a dark hole in the side of his head.]

If the water seeps into my brain I am holding you personally responsible. I don’t need to be brain-damaged on top of being horribly disfigured.

[He hops to his feet and scoops up the device, holding it level with his face as he turns around, surveying his surroundings.]

Now. Where in bleeding hell am I?

He didn't make all of it. There were a few boxes left over from the last time you were both here, two years ago. I kept them just in case you came back.

[She looks a little sheepish for being so sentimental, but she'd always hoped she'd have family again. And though she always spoke of using her brothers' products while they were away, she'd look into the boxes and close them again. It didn't feel right if they weren't around to laugh with her about it.]

Two years ago?

[This... needs some explaining, little sister.]

[Ginny is going to try and brush this off like it's nothing. Just watch her, George. She's doing the nonchalant shrug and waving hand and everything, even though inwardly she's kicking herself for letting it slip.]

Something like that. I forget the details. But obviously the products worked fine so well done on the use-by dates, right?

How long have you been here exactly, Ginny?

You won't like the answer, George. Can't we just, I don't know, have a proper hug before we get into the serious discussions?

[Low blow there, little sister. Still. How is he supposed to argue with that?]

Alright. We'll save the interrogation for after the touching family reunion.

[The family argument is infallible. Ginny feels a little guilty that she's avoiding this, but it had spoiled her reunion with Fred and she doesn't want to do that to George. The twins have enough on their shoulders. How do you tell your brother, who saw you last as a 17 year old witch (September, Merlin, she's already had her birthday), that you're now 19 and still months away from the battle that changed their lives?

He already knows that last bit. One piece of information at a time.]

Thank you.

[And she relaxes a little, smiling still.]

You said Ron was working at the shop? How's that coming along?

Well, you know...

I wasn't going to keep going with it. But Ron was being a right pillock about the whole thing. And he's ended being fairly useful at re-stocking shelves.

I'd imagine Ron was just trying to be helpful. He spent a year away from us when everything happened, he probably wanted to make it up somehow.

[She resists the urge to ask what she's doing in the future. If she's tried out for the Harpies like she's always dreamed, if she and Harry are together, if... no. None of that. She can't know.]

[He says it with a smile on his face, though. In fact he doesn't know if he could have gone on with WWW without Ron barging in and demanding to help.]

Now, George. We love our brother.

[She's grinning all too broadly, just so pleased that she can take the mickey out of Ron with both twins now.]

So... he's doing alright? Mum and Dad too?

Of course we love him. But where would he be if we we're around to give him a hard time? He'd have his head right up his arse.

They're alright I guess. Everyone's bloody famous now after the battle. It's a lot to deal with.

[That and... other things.]

[Ginny sits back, pushing a hand through her hair with a sigh, suddenly exhausted deep in her bones. The months after the war must be bloody confusing, torn between celebrating and mourning. And here she is trying to ask after it like it's normal. It isn't, not really. It can't be.]

But you seem... I mean, you're alright too, aren't you, Georgie?

[George gives her a look. You're a smart girl, Ginny. Do you really think he'd be alright?]

I thought we were going to hold back on the interrogations.

[At least she actually has the grace to blush at being caught. She hoped he'd be alright, but she knows it won't ever be the same. What a stupid question to ask.]

[He smiles half-heartedly.]

We'll both have loads to look forward to. Clearly.

[Softer, now.]

I've really missed you, you fantastic prat. I know things must be... [A breath.] I can't imagine what it's like at home. And the City isn't the best place to be stuck in, but I reckon having family around'll help loads with adjusting.

[Now is this next bit to him or herself? Either way, she flashes him a bracing smile in return.]

It'll be fine.

[George glances up, pretending to take in the scenery.]

It doesn't seem like such a bad place to get yourself stuck in. I'm not bothered, really.

You'll like the cabin, too. It's in the forest, warded as well as Hogwarts, loads of your stuff's already there.

[They've a home, here. There's a way to make it comfortable, there's a way to be alright with this place. She grins, a bit wider again, and gently teases,]

I've even kept it clean. I know you'll muck it up the moment you get back, but just remember you're cleaning up after yourselves. Not me.

Alright, Mum.

[A pause, then...]

How'd you manage to get your own cabin, then? You haven't gone and married into wealth, have you?

[The look she shoots him all but says, damn right I'm Mum - only because she won't have the cabin dissolving into chaos after she's kept it tidy for months. >|

And George's next question has her bursting into surprised laughter.]

Me, married? I'm too young for that just yet. I'm not even dating anyone right now, for Merlin's sake. No, it was here when I first got here. Loads of people from home lived there at the time, made it something like... a mix between Hogwarts and The Burrow. It's nice.

Of course you're too young! But we both know the famous Weasley charm works. He might not have been able to resist.

Then I must be doing something wrong with that famous Weasley charm because I've not had a boyfriend since Harry.

[She raises an eyebrow.]

Which is, I'm sure, devastating news for you as my brother.

Harry wasn't so bad, really. At least it was a step up from that Michael Corner fellow. I was seriously doubting your sanity for a moment, Little Sister.

Michael Corner was my first boyfriend, those're never quite right. And really, how was I supposed to know he'd be sore about us beating Ravenclaw at Quidditch?

[Ginny huffs, exasperated and amused. She hasn't even dated anyone in the City. Really, her brothers have nothing to worry about.]

Fred still threatened to lock me in my room, though. I probably shouldn't make jokes about snogging the first bloke I see, hm?
